Drilling Waste Management Non-landing Technology Application

On Sept. 2nd of 2009, well YM7-12 was started to drill together with the complete set of drilling waste management equipment operated, to uninterrupted while drilling processing the waste mud from the solid control system. On Nov. 2nd of 2009, the second section drilling finished. The complete system operated for a total time of 57 days, accumulative handling drilling waste mud 3450m³, including bentonite polymer mud 250m³, polymer mud 2225m³, polysulfonate drilling fluid -KC1-polysulfonate unsaturated salt water 975m³. After treatment and mud discharging, the water is 620m³, sand (drilling cuttings>5mm) 170m³, non-harmful mud clay 1150m³. Through monitoring and sample test to the mud clay and discharged water, all material during the whole operation reached to discharging standard.
On May 5th of 2010, well Ha 702 was conducted a second time pilot test. This well is a three stage structure. The first drilling section is 419.1mm big wellbore, the second drilling section is 241.3mm long open hole. During the construction for the first drilling section, the mud discharge quantity was big reaching to 45m³/h and mud running quantity above 50%; the second drilling section well wall off-falling seriously, mud loss more than two times of normal, and the discharging mud handling quantity reaching to 5600m³.
Onsite test result shown that this technology can meet the handling quantity requirements for the first section and second section drilling. Polymer mud, polysulfonate drilling fluid -KC1-polysulfonate unsaturated salt water drilling fluid both shown good treating efficiency. The treated mud clay and cuttings while drilling reached to non-harmful discharge standard. The treated water can be reused for the complete system itself and drilling operation circulation. It reduced solid volume mud pit and wipe off the risk of environmental pollution.

Non-landing technology can meet the current drilling operation requirement for drilling waste management The test unit has big collection volume (max.170m³), wide drilling fluid applicability, meeting drilling operation requirement for abnormal discharge mud quantity sharp increase and system fault emergency record demand. It improved Tarim oilfield waste treatment recycle application prospect, removed the potential environmental pollution and pollution risk caused by drilling waste mud.
1) Non-landing technology can realize while drilling, timely, continuous and stable treatment to the drilling waste fluid. The treated mud clay and water both reach to national discharge standard for recycle. The mud clay can be used for well site construction and the water can be recycled for circulation which greatly reduce production water quantity.
2) The complete equipment includes auto-transfer system which improved drilling production efficiency.

3) It can significantly reduce mud pit size or entirely remove it. This technology thoroughly break up the traditional drilling waste management way. It saves land resources, spot use or drip solid waste which is regenerated soil, lower production cost and improve environmental protection ability. It reduce pre-drilling construction feed, save drilling mud recovery and transfer cost.
Onsite test shown that the implementation program and equipment for the non-landing technology shall have further adjustment and completion.
1) For the first section drilling mud system wells, in condition no harmful material produced to the environment, the discharged material like fine sand can be not completely handled so to improve mud leakage utilization and decrease energy consumption during continuous operation of the system. The first section drilling mud discharge is usually about 25% of the full discharging capacity. During treatment, all equipment must be started together and the energy consumption reaching to 140kW/h.
2) Improving well site drilling waste mud collection system and transform the original 4 stage collection units into one integrated low position collection unit and uniform the equipment to ensure discharge mud and well site waste water for a comprehensive collection.

Mono Screw Pump Working Principle and Apllication

M ono screw pump , also called  sewage pump  or  progressive cavity pump ,  belongs to the rotor type positive displacement pump .   M ono screw pump  is depend ing  on the screw meshing with liner on the discharge and suction cavity to conveying liquid volume change.   It is a kind of method of pressurized screw pump, a main working parts by bushing has a double helix cavity (stator) and the stator cavity and its meshing singlehead screw screw (rotor).   When the input shaft through the universal joint drive making planets revolving around the center of the stator, rotor stator, rotor, vice is continuous mesh form sealed cavity, the seal chamber volume invariably uniform axial movement, the medium from the suction end of deputy to the stator, rotor pressure side, the suction medium sealed cavity through the stator without stirring and destruction. M ono screw pump  is an ideal pump used to feed drilling fluids to ...

Water Based Mud Drilling Cuttings Management

In  geotechnical engineering ,   drilling fluid is used to aid the drilling of  boreholes   into the earth , o ften used while drilling  oil  and  natural gas  wells and on exploration drilling rigs , and  also for much simpler boreholes  like   water wells . Liquid drilling fluid is often called drilling mud. The three main categories of drilling fluids are water-based mud (which can be dispersed and non-dispersed), non-aqueous mud, usually called oil-based mud, and gaseous drilling fluid, in which a wide range of  gases  can be used. The main functions of drilling fluids include :  providing  hydrostatic pressure  to prevent  formation fluids  from entering into the well bore, keeping the  drill bit  cool and clean during drilling, carrying out drill cuttings, and suspending the drill cuttings while drilling is paused and when the drilling assembly is brought in and out...

Drilling Waste Management Approach and Method

Drilling waste management is a hot topic these years with global attention to environmental protection, especially in O il & gas industry. Drilling waste management  into environment without any treatment is strictly forbidden. So before disposal, a series methods must be introduced to treat the cuttings and make it reach to disposal standard. Drill ing   waste   is  produced as the rock is broken by the drill bit advancing through the rock or soil; the cuttings are usually carried to the surface by  drilling fluid  circulating up from the drill bit   by  rotary ,  percussion , or auger methods. The drill ing waste  is commonly examined to make a record (a  well log ) of the subsurface materials penetrated at various depths. In the oil and gas industry, this is often called a  mud log .   One drilling method that does not produce drill ing   waste  is  core drilling , which instead produces s...
